Master Customer Support with AI Chatbots

Discover how AI chatbots are changing the customer support landscape by being able to ask questions and answer like a human would

Hey, Alan here.

This is the first edition of my newsletter UsecAIse. Every week, you can expect 1 use case of AI and automation in your business with a guide, plus, always the latest news and tools that can improve your business directly.

UsecAIse aims to build a community of founders, CEOs, and professionals who want to implement AI and tech in their business but lack practical knowledge on how to do so.

Why are AI Chatbots different?

Previously, you had to train a chatbot for any use case manually. This means inputting data and a lot of conditional logic (If the user answers X, answer him Y). It costs thousands of dollars only to waste users’ time. This was because it rarely worked in a way that was helpful (We all just wanted to be redirected to a live support representative).

Thanks to chatGPT technology, you can build chatbots that are suited to your needs for less than 20 bucks a month. It is fully autonomous, it can understand the question and use trained context for an answer.

It is very similar to an employee, only it costs so much less!

How can you use an AI Chatbot?

These chatbots are getting new use cases day by day. This is thanks to their API connection possibilities and integration ideas from developers. The most common use cases now are:

  • 24/7 Customer Support - Answering questions when you are not available

  • Digital Salesman- Informs about products and services in a way that engages the visitor and helps make the right decision

  • Lead generation specialist - When people need help, they must input their info, resulting in you being able to contact them later on. The best part? You can see exactly what they are interested in, based on the chatbot conversation.

Some less common use cases:

  • Employee training and onboarding - Simply upload all of your internal documents and watch the magic happen.

  • Airbnb/Booking host communication - Load up all of your property information and let the chatbot answer questions for you

  • Study partner - Upload your PDFs and ask questions about information in them, having a trained tutor has never been easier.

💡 What is an API?

It is a set of rules and protocols that ensure communication between different software. Enabling us to automate almost any digital process. For example, if you connect your chatbot to Whatsapp API - You get an integrated chatbot that can answer your questions in Whatsapp, or even answer customer support questions there from you!

Deep dive: Chatnode for website customer support

We have handpicked the best tools on the market for these use cases below. Our favorite being ChatNode.AI.

ChatNode helps train chatGPT on your data, which means it makes it easy to take information from the website or input any of your instructions into it. They also allow you to implement the chatbot on your website very easily as well as use it in your favorite apps like Slack or Whatsapp.

How to get an AI chatbot for your website

  1. Register for a free account at https://www.chatnode.ai/register

  2. Hit “Create a new Bot” in the upper right corner

  3. Paste your website URL in the field for the website and wait till it scrapes all of your website content

  4. If you have any additional documents regarding your company, upload them to the “Files” Section.

  5. Go to the Settings page, where you adjust the “system prompt” to your liking. This instructs the chatbot how to act, you can tell it to be funnier, to access information from other sites as well, or simply just put there your phone number so people can contact you if the chatbot cannot provide an answer.

  6. Test it out - Start asking questions a customer would, when you notice wrong answers, adjust the system prompt so it outputs only high-quality information.

  7. Implement it on your website. You have multiple options when implementing the chatbot, however, the easiest one would be to insert the Popup Chat Widget into your head tag on your website. Don´t worry if you are not sure how to ask your developers, it shouldn´t take long.

Training Tips:

  • When giving a system prompt, try to avoid negative such as “Don´t do X”, it is better to formulate it in a positive way

  • Decide if you want the chatbot to use its knowledge, while it may seem appealing, it is often better to stick to trained information, make sure to enter the prompt “Use only information from our website and documents, do not answer questions regarding other context”

  • When training the chatbot, ask it a question, check the answer, tweak the prompt, and then ask it the exact same question again, don´t switch between questions.

Other tools to use:

If you don´t like ChatNode, we have curated other tools for you to try out and build your human-like chatbot in 10 minutes or less:

Case Study: Telmi increased revenue by 15% thanks to AI Chatbot.

Many businesses are experimenting with these solutions. Case study of Telmi talks about an advanced use case and programming of an AI chatbot for their company, which helped them increase customer satisfaction and revenue by 15%.

The Future

It is exciting to see what the future brings in this field. I am interested mostly in the complex application of these chatbots. As chatGPT recently got voice and we can pretty easily generate AI avatars, we might soon receive superior customer support in text, video as well and calls.

This would mean a decent cut of human employees in customer support. Chatbot simply doesn´t need to have lunch breaks, vacations, or even sleep, this makes ordinary customer support employees look underqualified for their jobs when AI steps into the room.

I ask…Will we need these positions? What is going to happen to them? Will we really rather fire them all to have a machine answering the phone?

Wrapping up

I hope you liked my take on this topic. We have recently started implementing these chatbots for clients on their websites and we can conclude: It will take time to have a chatbot that is able to replace an actual employee.. So for now, pay attention, teach others how to use it, and don´t forget: Use AI every day.

Thanks for reading, looking forward to see you reading the next week´s newsletter about AI in Marketing automation.

Best Regards, Alan
